As 2011 hunkered down I realized that my 2011 was slightly bland. Right towards the end of the year a friend, Erin Biller, stopped by one night. Erin is a bit free-spirited, but i find her personality refreshing. She's very positive and earth-conscious. She was giving my roommate and I advice or rather lessons about life. The thing she said that caught my attention was when she was saying, "Say yes, before you say no." This made absolute sense and something clicked. So I have decided that for 2012 I will make this my first and foremost rule: Say yes, before I say no.
On January 4, this rule came into practice for the first time. My coworker, Emily, had invited me to this Decentralized Dance Party through the streets of Phoenix. I was very excited about this when I got the invite, but it completely slipped my mind as it came to the day. I received a text message from my other co-worker, Rachel at about 5pm that night asking if I was going. I was tired and should have gone for a run, but I was in the middle of the Hunger Games triology's third book, Mockingjay, and really just wanted to curl up. As I got off work and standing at Emily's trunk debating if I should go, I remembered my rule: Say Yes, before I say No.
Let me tell you, this was the best Yes decision!! We danced to 80's, 90's and today's top hits for about 2 hours completely sober and I forgot what it was like to just let loose and enjoy being in the company of others who wanted to have a good time.
It will be interesting to see what is going to unfold this year...
